Prompter for Mac · Updated August 20, 2026

Prompter does not require an account. Brinkhour does not operate a service that receives your scripts, recordings, or settings.

What we collect

Brinkhour does not collect personal data through Prompter. There is no account system, analytics, advertising, or cloud storage run by us.

Apple, your network provider, or another service you choose to use may process connection or device information under their own policies.

Takes, scripts, and settings

When you record a take, Prompter stores audio and a transcript on this Mac, in Prompter’s Application Support folder. The reel, um counts, pace, and starred keepers are stored there too. Clearing the reel deletes those local files.

Editor content and preferences stay on the device. A saved .prompter document, an imported PowerPoint notes file, or an opened .textream file is handled locally in a location you control. Prompter does not upload those files to a Brinkhour server.

Removing the app does not necessarily remove preferences that macOS keeps for it.

Microphone and speech recognition

Recording a take uses the microphone. Follow Voice and um-counting use Apple’s speech-recognition framework. Auto-Scroll can run without the microphone.

Speech recognition is not guaranteed to stay on-device. Depending on your Mac, language, operating-system version, and service availability, macOS may process speech locally or send microphone audio to Apple for recognition. Brinkhour does not receive that audio or the recognition result.

You can change permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security. See the Apple Privacy Policy.

Remote and Director modes

These are off until you enable them under Advanced settings. When enabled, Prompter starts a server on your Mac so another device on the local network can view teleprompter state or control the script.

Use them only on a network and with devices you trust. Turn them off when you are finished, and do not share the connection address or QR code publicly.

Other network connections

In a Mac App Store build, updates are delivered by Apple. If you follow a link from Prompter to a website, that site handles the resulting connection under its own policy.

Screen sharing

The “Hide from Screen Sharing” setting asks macOS to exclude Prompter’s overlay from screen captures. It does not control other apps, cameras, or external capture hardware. Confirm your recording setup before relying on it.

Retention

Because Brinkhour does not receive your scripts or takes, there is no server copy to delete. You control saved documents in Finder and takes in Prompter’s reel.
